“I started my sessions with Coleen in August 2009. I knew we would work well together, mostly because she really listened to what I wanted to work on AND she was making me laugh. Coleen can sometimes come across as a fabulously mutant hybrid of Julia Child, Doctor Oz and Amy Poehler. Her attentiveness and sense of humor are what helped guide me through some key health issues. As soon as I started following her suggestions with what I was eating and the nutritional supplements I was taking my digestive issues improved. And although I always thought I was eating in a (mostly) healthful way, I knew I needed and wanted the specific knowledge and expertise about food that a nutritionist could give me. One MAJOR change that Coleen made to my diet was the types of oils I was cooking with—with just one or two minor adjustments, I noticed weight loss and less skin inflammation when I made these changes. It blew me away that such a simple shift in diet was actually all-pervasive; there are a lot of very questionable oils are in everything we eat. Coleen was also generous to address my issues by email between sessions. Several of my friends have seen nutritionists, so I had this preconceived notion that she would forbid all sugar and alcohol. Instead, she was a realist, encouraging me to add in healthy habits to crowd out bad ones and reaffirming my belief that part of nutrition is not cutting out 100% of what brings us joy in life. In some ways, this made me trust her more, and once on her program, the sugar binges naturally decreased anyway. Her “lagniappes” were my favorite: burning CDs for me about cooking, nutrition and yoga, and lending me books from her library when I boldly asked her at one session if she could not only act as a nutritionist for me but also as a bit of a life coach. She responded with: “It all relates to nutrition anyway.” Coleen ROCKS! I’m already getting withdrawal symptoms and experiencing separation anxiety now that our sessions are over.”
